Fifth grade students at Bel Air Elementary School got a firsthand look at plant science this spring through a partnership with Harford County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services and fifth grade teacher Shannon O'Connor.
Using a raised garden bed, grow lights, and potting materials provided through the partnership, students studied plant propagation and growth, successfully propagating more than 50 plants over the course of the project. Earlier this spring, students showcased their work in a farmer's market style presentation at the A.A. Roberty Building, sharing what they had grown and learned with members of the school community.
The project reflects the ongoing commitment of Harford County Public Schools to connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences and supporting student wellness through hands-on, nutrition-focused education.
